Joe Hockey shows his ignorance on National infrastructure

Postby Claudekrowe » Sun Jun 17, 2012 12:58 pm

An excellent article from Renai LeMay over at Delimiter, exposes our alternative LNP Treasurer (Joe Hockey) ignorance on the significance of what benefits the wider Australian community will get from the NBN!

entrance Quote from article;
"Yesterday Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey issued an extensive statement attempting to show that comments he had made about 4G mobile broadband having the potential to be “far superior” to the National Broadband Network’s fibre had been taken out of context. Unfortunately, he only succeeded in digging himself a bigger hole."

full story here

Further, it is a worthy context Repost of looktall user comment - reinforces the whole picture very well!

However, it is inappropriate for a Federal MP who is the nation’s current alternative Treasurer to extrapolate complicated matters of national policy from the fact that they use an iPad

especially when that ipad cannot even make use of the much lauded 4G network.

This is one very interesting write up from a very shrewd techno journo (Paul Budde - BuddeCom)

He makes a strong case that blasts huge holes in Abbott and Turnbull Infrastructure based competition mantra (in the context of improving our lagging and hopelessly inadequate broadband services in Aus)

Here is the full article link
http://www.buddeblog.com.au/frompaulsde ... this-time/

In response to this, Communications Day (23 July 2012) reports “HFC deal a ‘black day’ for telco competition: Turnbull – Shadow communications minister Malcolm Turnbull has slammed the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for approving Optus’ A$800 million deal….”

Those who oppose this NBN Co deal with Optus clearly have short memories. Have they forgotten the industry and environmental protests during the mid-90s when competitors, Optus and Foxtel/Telstra chose to run two HFC cables down the same streets of our major cities, each offering the promise of “infinite bandwidth” (clearly this is wrong but in any case, those marketing & Government representatives supporting parallel HFC networks must have missed the maths lecture where it was taught that 2 x infinity is still infinity). I have two HFC cables in my street and connected to my house. What did this do for competition? Nothing.

Budde Com a very informative site

And now its Mal T turn to dance with the devillish detail - expecting that Telstra will play nicely in a future Coalition government over its terms on lending the HFC into the national broadband, it will NEVER sign on to open access agreements, Malcolm you are fooling your self if you believe it, or you are lying - sort of like VOTE for LIBs, your National Telco network is safe with us - Trust Us. Ship of Fools :))

This will not end well ... and the worst bit is the HFC footprint householders will then be the political football :-?

Well we finally see the alternative NBN policy from the NOalition. Good to see that the one main policy area that assisted in them LOOSING the previous Federal election, they now take seriously! It is clear to see that the main plank in their policy is to give the Big Whip to Telstra! We will be lucky to see fibre for twenty five years up here. Milking the water attracting copper will be the mainstream and it will be a dim (telco) future if they win!

Weasel maths and obsfucation does not fool me MT

The next Act in the intriguing multi Act play "I've got a better NBN Policy" occurred on 6th May (Monday Noon)

It happened in the Google Plex - a "hangout" Mr random Joe Public could ask an NBN specific question of Sen Conroy and Mal Turnbull (the opposition's Mr Broadband - Mister FRAUDband) - equal time was given to respond.

http://www.zdnet.com/au/hangout-with-tu ... 000014432/

Above is a link to the full transcript! (Thanks to ZDNet)

Malcolm a couple of times just flatly spoke "around the question" and gave NON-Answers!

It is a real concern (should be to the voting public) that they (Lib Nats) think they can resume with their Telstra love-in! The big T have a much stronger negotiating position - UNLESS Mal T has done a dirty little deal with the CEO and Board of Telstra Already!

Later in the interview Sen Conroy touch on some history that got Mr Broadband really rattled

Stephen Conroy 1 - Malcolm Guaranteed 25Mbps to EVERYONE Turnbull 0
